Meeting notes: January 13, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm by Vice-President Mike Rollins followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 20 members and 2 visitors in attendance.

Secretary’s Report :
• Minutes of the November report was read and approved. Special Minutes of the club’s Christmas dinner was read and also approved.

Treasurer’s Report :
• Wayne Fox presented the report.

Trustee’s Report :
• Jay Wright gave a report that the repeater is doing fine.

ARES Report :
• Ron Burke stated that three training classes are coming up in Jan/Feb. On January 18th Dave Leimenstoll will teach on “Preparedness”. On January 25th, Mike Rollins, and Bill Gouge will give an hands on training on the Yaesu-FT8800-R radio that is being used by both hospitals. February 1st, Travis Vetters will train on the different ICS forms to be used during a disaster. All ARES classes will be held at the Senior Service’s Center 1201 Sycamore Ln in Danville.
• Have some ARES personnel changes this year. Melissa Shriner N7BEE will now be our Operations Consultant. Gordon Cotton KD0EWM will be our new Operations AEC. We acquired two PIO’s ( Public Information Officers) Larry and Kyle Evans. These two will handle the press, public, and the news media during an emergency. They will educate these folks about Amateur radio at peace times.

RACES Report :
• Bob Burns commented that march 1st will be the NWS Severe Weather Spotter Training Program, which is hosted by the NWS.
• Park to Park Relay will be June 14th.
• Bob also stated that you can learn about emergency radio communications handling when working in Public Service events. is a place to look for the various public service events that will be going on throughout this year.
• There will be a Hilltop contest this year.

Old Business :
• Mike Rollins said that the chairman of the Hilltop Contest will be passing out the certificates later, he’s having some problems of getting the certificates to print.
• Bob Thompson passed around a worker’s schedule for this year’s Brownsburg Hamfest.
• Wayne Fox said that the Talk-in for the Brownsburg Hamfest will be Ken Kayler. Harold Davis will not be able to attend. Also there were some more discussion about the tables and etc. at the hamfest.

New Business :
• Dennis Gilbey made a motion for the club to purchase a gavel for our President John Farmer to use during the club meetings. It was seconded by Joe Morton. Motion passed.
• John Farmer passed around the new Brownsburg Hamfest Flyer.

Other Announcements :
• Wayne Fox commented about the ham training class on January 29th. Mike Rollins and Mike Bowman will be teaching the Extra class. Harold Davis will be teaching the General class. Ron Burke will be teaching the Technician class.
• John Farmer commented about the Indianapolis Radio Club reaching the 100th Anniversary this year. The club is planning several events to mark this 100th year.
• John also talked about the possibility of a club sponsorship of the Robotics club at the Avon High School. More on this after the Brownsburg hamfest.
• Tom Hansen commented about the professionalism on November’s SKYWARN net which he was a part in, and thanked those hams who also participated. Tom also brought in an old radio for a show and tell.
• Dennis Gilbey read off a listing of the different hamfest going on in and around the state.

Special Report :
• No report.

Meeting closed : at 8:40 pm Dennis Gilbey made a motion to close the meeting, which was seconded by Dr. Jay Wright..
