Meeting notes: October 14, 2013

Hendricks County Amateur Radio Society


The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by President John Farmer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 23 members and 4 visitors in attendance.

Secretary’s Report :
• Minutes of the September report was read and approved. Dennis Gilbey made the motion to accept the minutes as given.

Treasurer’s Report :
• Wayne Fox presented the report. Expenses were $100 for the deposit money to our hamfest at the Brownsburg American Legion.

Trustee’s Report :
• Harold Davis made the report that he and Jay Wright worked on the repeater because the repeater went down during the evening of October the 5th. When they got to the repeater site it was running okay. Ran several checks and found no cause for the shutdown.

ARES Report :
• Ron Burke commented that we had our first S.E.T. October the 5th. The earthquake exercise went on for about 1 ½ hrs with 12 hams participating. Melissa Shriner N7BEE, Dave Leimenstoll N9XOQ, and Travis Vetters W8QHV were the architects of this event. Vernon NA9L helped pass Ron’s reports via the NTS to the Indiana S.M. and the S.E.C.
• We’re putting together a special weather edition of The Ham’er and need weather pictures from the local hams in the county. If you have any pictures that you would like to share send them to Ron via e-mail.
• Also are looking for anybody that has any Amateur radio pictures of their ham shack, any special ham projects, etc. send them to Ron as they are putting together a special section in The Ham’er to display these pictures.

RACES Report :
• Bob Burns stated that on October 31, we’ve been asked to assist the Hendricks County Sheriff and Avon police this year with the "Halloween Patrol".

Old Business :
• Mike Rollins said that we won by default on the “hilltop” radio event.
• Bob Thompson said that the board at the Brownsburg American Legion is meeting about the hamfest agenda in February 2014, also there may not be any food at the event.

New Business :
• Christmas dinner chairman Tom Hansen will contact Nona of the Senior Services Center for a date and time for the dinner.
• Ron Burke stated that next month’s club meeting on November 11th will meet back here at the Hendricks County Airport. Next year for all 12 months the club will be meeting at the Hendricks County Government center.
• Dennis Gilbey read a note from Jack Parker of the I.R.C.C. who is looking for a used UHF radio. Had 8 nominations for Amateur of the Year Award.
• Dennis Gilbey will not be running for the club’s vice president next year.
• Nominations for next year’s club board members are as follows: John Farmer for President by Dave Leimenstoll, seconded by Dennis Gilbey. Mike Rollins for Vice President by Dennis Gilbey, seconded by Dave Liemenstoll. Wayne Fox for Treasurer by Mike Rollins, seconded by Jay Wright. Ron Burke for Secretary by Bob Thompson, seconded by Dennis Gilbey. Bob Burns made a motion to close and table the nominations till next meeting, seconded by Bob Thompson.

Other Announcements :
• John Farmer has asked the club for their thoughts and prayers for the McMahan family. John McMahan has cancer and his wife is wheelchair bound.

Special Report :
• No report.

Meeting closed : at 7:54 pm Bill McCleary made a motion to close the meeting, which was seconded by Jay Wright.
