Meeting notes: September 9, 2013

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by President John Farmer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 17 members and 4 visitors in attendance.

Secretary’s Report :
• Minutes of the August report was read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report :
• Wayne Fox presented the report. The club sold $29 in club patches which was added to the General account.

Trustee’s Report :
• Harold said that he will check out the cause of the “buzzing” sound in the audio of the repeater.

ARES Report :
• Ron Burke said Quaker Day Fest is September 20-21. Thanked all who volunteered for this event.
• New ARES Member class is October 19th. Have 12 new ARES members this year.
• Reminder that our hospital net is every third Thursday of each month on 147.570 at 9:30am.
• September is Preparedness month. Every week on our Tuesday night net will have a little bit of information on this topic, plus the Ham’er has had a page of information in each of the past three issues. Remind everyone to have monthly practice drills, and have at least 3 days of emergency food and water.

RACES Report :
• No Report.

Old Business :
• Mike Rollins had sent in the paperwork for us to be included in the "Hilltop" radio event September 28, 8a-12p ( noon.)

New Business :
• Bob Thompson stated that he will need a $100 check from the club for a deposit for the club’s hamfest in February. He will also ask the Ladies Auxiliary to handle the food detail for the hamfest.
• Ron Burke said that the location of the October 14th and the November 11th HCARS club meeting will be held at the Gordon Graham Field (Hendricks County Airport) at 7pm on both dates. Might bring a folding chair.

Other Announcements :
• Bill McCleary said that a part of Dan Jones road in Avon will be closed due to a parade on September 28th.
• Jay Wright said that the Amateur Radio Training Classes will start on January 29th and will run for nine weeks. Also he needs nominations for Amateur Radio awards that will be held sometime in December.
• Bob Burns e-mailed the club’s board members about generating some interest in NBEMS. (Narrow Band Emergency Messaging Software.) This is a data communications protocol that reportedly works well on HF, VHF, and UHF. There was an article about NBEMS in the September 2013 issue of QST.

Meeting closed : at 8:15pm Bob Thompson made a motion to close the meeting, which was seconded by Bill McCleary.
