Meeting notes: January 9, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 7:04pm by Club President John Farmer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. He also thanked everyone for being here for the club’s first meeting of the year. There were 15 members and 5 guest in attendance.

Secretary’s Report :
• Minutes of November and Christmas Dinner were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report :
• Wayne Fox presented the report.

Trustee’s Report :
• Harold Davis reported he tweaked on the transmitter of the 147.015 repeater because of DX rolling in on the repeater during the nets. Put the heater on the cans. Also thinking about putting a PL Tone on the repeater.

ARES Report :
• Ron Burke stated that thanks to the Rotary International District 6560, we have a communication station inside of the trailer. The trailer will be used for post operations and supply.
• The Indpls Intl airport E.O.C. will be able to monitor the 147.015 repeater when there is a SKYWARN net. They have a ham station set-up currently with a Yaesu FT-8800R dual band radio and a Comet base antenna. After the Super Bowl is over, Andy Burnett ( Chief Ops. Manager) and a couple of managers from the airport E.O.C. will take the Tech. part of the ham test. Currently they have one person ( ham) that can operate the station.
• This month classes are, HF Antennas by Dennis Gilbey K9JZZ, Jan.7
• Jan.21 @ 1pm Jay KK9L, and Harold K9PZ, will host a solder class.This will be a follow-up of Harold’s presentation of a solder class he did last Fall with the club.
• Jan.28 @ 1pm Bob Burns W9RXR will host a APRS workshop.
• Hendricks Co. ARES gave out its first newsletter via e-mail named “ The Ham’er”
• Ares is looking to host a CERT training class sometime this year.

RACES Report :
• Bob Burns stated that he attended the AUXCOM class this past weekend. 30 people attended the class.
• Jan.21 Indiana State RACES Net. 8:30am will be a Hendricks County RACES Net on the 147.165 repeater. At 9am will be the State RACES Net.
• March 24 @ 1pm will be the SKYWARN Spotters Training
• June 16 will be the Park-to-Park Relay. This year the relay will start at Sodalis Park. The relay is a 60 mile course with 6 people in each relay run. Hams will be at each checkpoint.
• Bob had ask the club of what experience everyone had in data communications.

Old Business :
• Jay Wright reminded the club about the Ham class Jan.25. Wayne Fox’s powerpoints will be used. Also the ARRL’s Q & A book.

New Business :
• Bill Miller said that the county has new atlas maps of the county that are available and are out on the table.
• Wayne Fox said that he was asked to help in setting up the tables for the Brownsburg Hamfest Feb25. Set-up tables will be Friday Feb.24. The Hamfest is inside the American Legion post 331, 636 E.Main St, Brownsburg. Tickets will be $5 per person. Tables w/power $15, without $10. Talk-in on 147.015. Proceeds will go to the Veterans Fund. Need hlp on Friday for table set-up. Free table for the club.
• Bill Miller made a motion on the floor to make announcements about putting the 147.015 repeater on PL tone, then place it on tone at a later time. No one seconded, no vote carried.
• Jay Wright said that there will be a VEC testing in Crawfordsville tomorrow night.

Other Announcements :
• John Farmer mentioned about the show “ Ham Nation “ which he sees on Podcast.
• John also talked about ham radio in movies and T.V. shows, and thanked everyone for tonights attendance.
