Meeting notes: May 9, 2011

The May meeting of the Hendricks County Amateur Radio Society was called to order at 7:08 PM by President John Farmer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 17 members present.

Secretary’s Report: The minutes for the April meeting were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report was provided by Wayne Fox KE9P. Wayne reported that the ARRL is changing insurance carriers. We can stay with our old company, if desired. Our policy is valid until next spring.

Trustee’s Report: The tower site will need to be mowed. Wayne Fox will contact people by phone to arrange for this to be done.

ARES Report: Ken Kayler, Jay Wright, Melissa Shriner, and T.J. Jones will be Assistant Emergency Coordinators. There will be a training session for emergency net controllers at the Senior Services Center in Danville, on May 14th from 1:00-3:00 PM.

RACES Report: None. (It was noted that Emergency Management’s equipment was not working well at last use. Perhaps needs proper grounding.)

OLD BUSINESS:
Field Day notes:
1. The site at the fairgrounds has been secured. The usual rules apply.
2. The pulley and gear that are in place from last year look good.
3. There is an ice maker on location that we might be able to use.
4. Bill Eddy will supply a generator.
5. We have a computer as club property now that was donated as a throwaway.
6. Dennis Gilbey has the paper products and eating utensils
7. Wayne Fox made a list of who would bring what items to Field Day.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. The club was contacted about providing a talk on communications for a Cub Scout pack. Wayne Fox will handle this alone since there are possibly only four scouts who will attend. This will probably take place on Monday, May 16th.
2. The club received a letter from the Boy Scouts of America, looking for radio equipment and/or monetary donations to purchase equipment. It was determined that we do not have the resources as a club to do this. Jay Wright will take the letter to the American Legion to see if they may be willing to help support this endeavor.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.

Respectfully submitted, Peg McNary (Secretary)
